Still neighbors.
A city can be well run and still leave people without a roof. In Palm Springs, the people sleeping outside are not a type and not a campaign. They are neighbors — men, women, and families — many of them careful with what little they have, caught in a stretch of life with no soft landing. Some are veterans. Many are not. All of them are still people this city is responsible for.
A program of The Good Foundation · Palm Springs · Dignity first
The counts are low. The need is not.
The public counts for this valley run low against what the streets actually hold. Greater Palm Springs looks closer to about twenty-five hundred people without stable housing. Through Good Heroes we were already on those streets with something in hand. PS STREETS is the Foundation staying for the harder work that comes after a handshake: a housing answer with order, safety, and dignity built in — not another year of a model the people living under it already know is failing them.
City land. One build. A village.
Palm Springs already owns land at the airport edge — including the closed-off overflow lot near the entrance. Hundreds of thousands of square feet of city ground, sitting idle and already fenced from ordinary use.
For about what the city currently spends in a single year on the failing model, we can build a prefabricated community once: simple housing people will be proud to walk into, a small center, a food area, room to grow a pool, and clear clusters for women, men, and families.
We build. We do not rent our way out of this. Dignity is the standard — roofs that last, safety that holds, and a place people are proud to walk into.
Prefab that feels like a million bucks.
From the sidewalk to a village.
- 01
Listen
Meet people where they are — food banks, sidewalks, the sites they already know. Write down what they say, not what a brochure claims.
- 02
Document
Take credible reports to the people who can act, including Palm Springs Police. Keep faces out of it. Keep the facts straight.
- 03
Price the build
Source the lowest durable prefab. Map a village on city airport land. Aim the capital at one honest build near the current yearly spend.
- 04
Ask the city
Put the land and the one-time build on the table against another year of funding a model residents describe as broken.
- 05
Keep the standard
If we build it, we operate it: clusters, commons, clear rules, and a place that still feels right twenty years from now.
Dignity is the standard.
Help is not content. Safety reports go to police. Residents are not props. We share totals when we share anything at all.
PS STREETS is a program of The Good Foundation: family-funded, not a charity drive. The ask of Palm Springs is land and partnership — so public dollars buy roofs that last, instead of another year of a system people on the street already know is failing them.
